Skiers rejoice- after a long delay due to temperature inversion, Tennessee's only ski area, Ober Gatlinburg, has finally opened its ski slopes!

An unseasonably warm December made it hard for Ober Gatlinburg to produce enough snow to get the slopes up and going. Although snow tubing, the Ski Mountain Coaster, ice skating, and a few other attractions were able to open, the ski area stayed closed until January 8, after a few days of consistent lower temperatures and natural snow fall.

Currently, there are 4 trails and 3 lifts open to skiers. The open trails are Cub Way (beginner), Castle Run (intermediate), Upper Bear (intermediate), and Terrain Park (advanced). More trails should open soon! The current base depth is 30-36 inches, but will continue to increase as long as the weather permits snowmaking.

Guests will be able to enjoy the ski area's newest addition- the Magic Carpet conveyor lift, which will support those learning to ski or snowboard. The ski area has also introduced new automated snowmaking technology to improve snowmaking.
